My career in the “publishing business” began in junior high school at a summer job my mother got for me to keep me off the streets and out of trouble. The job was operating a mimeograph machine, collating and binding educational materials. I absolutely loved it and I was good at it! It did keep me off the streets, but not necessarily out of trouble. For an assignment in high school I created a magazine with articles, photos, advertisements and designed the cover. During my first year in college I published a monthly newsletter geared to the female students in what had been an all male school. When desktop publishing came along I was working with my mother in her business providing business support services. Our neighbor in the next office was receiving lessons on using PageMaker and in his frustration, offered to give me the PageMaker software if I would do the layout of his book. I jumped on his offer, bought a computer for home and taught myself PageMaker, then CorelDraw in the evenings. I was hooked! Since then I have been desktop publishing and designing documents for my clients, everything from business cards and letterhead to newsletters, catalogues, and books, including my mother’s first book, Memoirs - Early Childhood. This was back in 1993 and it has since been republished it as an e-book. All of this has led me to now publishing my first coloring book, An Eclectic Coloring Book for Everyone! Volume One.
